Attraction Details :

This place is one of Thailand’s historical memorials, constructed to appreciate and to recall the bravery and sacrifice of the two heroines from Phuket’s Thalang District; Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon, or Khun Ying Chan and Khun Ying Muk. Two heroines Monument is located approximately 12 kilometers from the city center of Phuket. It is the statue of Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon, the two heroines best known for their bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism. In the past, Burmese army, divided into 9 troops, was sent to attack Thailand during the reign of King Rama I—the first king of Chakri dynasty. Burmese army was separated to attack different cities in Siam (the former name of Thailand). One of its troops went to Kra Buri, Takua Pa, and Takua Thung, near Thalang. Owing to the assassination of Khun Ying Chan’s husband who was a governor, she and her sister, Khun Ying Muk, gathered both male and female villagers and made them dress up as male soldiers to fight with the invaders. The two ladies also dressed up as well. At last, they could conquer Burmese troop by using their ability and strategy. After that, King Rama I had a plan to give reward to those who had great contributions to the country. As a consequence, Khun Ying Chan and Khun Ying Muk were honored as Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon, respectively.

Two Heroines Monument is located at Tha Ruea intersection circle in Sri Sunthon Sub-district, Thalang District, Phuket Province. It was built in 1966. Its construction was recorded in the Thalang letters in response with the King Rama I’s idea. The king attended the opening of Thalang Road and named it Thep Kasattri Road. He also named two sub-districts after the name of the two heroines as Thep Kasattri Sub-district and Sri Sunthon Sub-district. Besides, there is an annual celebration for the two heroines in order to recall their bravery.
